The 20-year-old signed a new deal at Bramall Lane last summer
Sydie Peck's emergence in the Sheffield United side this season was unprecedented, but the 20-year-old has made himself one of the first names on the team sheet for Chris Wilder's side.
Peck had made just one appearance for the Blades before this season, and came into the 2024/25 campaign as a clear backup behind Vini Souza and Ollie Arblaster.
Injuries meant that he was thrust into the deep end of a Championship title battle immediately, but his performances this term will definitely give Chris Wilder a selection headache once Arblaster returns from his cruciate ligament injury.
That is, however, if Souza, Arblaster and Peck all remain at Bramall Lane past this summer. The Guardian have recently reported that Premier League side West Ham United have been looking at the Championship for midfield reinforcement, with their eyes set on Sydie Peck, as well as Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney.
And, if Peck was the man for Graham Potter this summer, you'd expect the 20-year-old to be offered a contract worth a substantial amount, especially compared to his current Blades deal, which he penned ahead of his breakout season.
Sydie Peck was an unknown quantity when he signed his current Sheffield United deal, and the fact that it was less than 12 months ago makes his rise even more remarkable.
According to Capology, his deal saw him earn an estimated £3,000 per week, a figure which Capology estimates won't increase across the four years of his contract.
And, for someone who had featured more times on loan for Oldham Athletic than he had in the senior Sheffield United squad at the time, the wage made sense for someone tipped to break into the Blades squad in the future.
However, Peck missed just five games all season in all competitions for Sheffield United this term, and his usage has evidently outgrown the amount per week he's being paid.
Therefore, sides in the Premier League will definitely be looking to offer him at least ten times his current wage, you'd expect, to lure him to the top flight.
Given West Ham were in the quarter-finals of the Europa League just two seasons ago, their current wage bill reflects a side with a lot more ambition than one which finished 14th in the most recent Premier League campaign.
The Hammers' highest-paid players, per Capology's estimates, are Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen, who both earn an estimated £150,000 per week.
Now, Peck won't earn that much immediately, but when you take into account that over 18 players were estimated to have earned over £50,000 per week last season at the London Stadium, it shows how much money West Ham truly have to throw at new signings.
For a more accurate take on how much Peck could earn at the London Stadium, looking at Crysencio Summerville's current wage would be wise. The 2023/24 Championship Player of the Year made the move from Elland Road to East London last summer and currently earns an estimated £30,000 per week.
If West Ham were to approach Sydie Peck and offer a similar wage to Crysencio Summerville, Sheffield United could be able to persuade the 20-year-old to stay with an improved contract of their own.
The Blades were estimated to have been paying eight different players £30,000 or more per week, with just three of those being loanees. Therefore, if Chris Wilder's side were truly eager to retain Peck's services, they would not lack the money to do so.
Additionally, after registering 28 goal involvements for Leeds United in the Championship, Summerville's career stagnated, if not regressed, during his first season at West Ham, with injuries and a lack of consistent starts seeing him score just once in his debut campaign.
