Palmeiras have been addressing Abel Ferreira’s repeated touchline flashpoints in-house, balancing sustained backing with demands for calmer conduct.
According to Globo.com, the coach’s outbursts, which bring complaints, dismissals and occasional longer bans, are accepted as heat of the moment but complicate preparation when he is sent off.
He has received reprimands from the football department and president Leila Pereira, though there are no financial or sporting penalties imposed by the club.
After the match against São Paulo, Abel travelled straight to Portugal for an extended break during the international window and is due back on Saturday.
His dismissal in that match prompted a case at the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva, where he could face Article 258, which covers conduct contrary to sporting discipline or ethics.
Prosecutors seek an exemplary punishment due to repeat offences, while Palmeiras argue he is being used as a scapegoat and want the same rigour applied to officials who exert external pressure. The hearing is expected in April.
In 2026 he has already been sent off three times, once in the Campeonato Paulista and twice in the Brasileirão, against Capivariano, Fluminense and São Paulo. Since October 2020 he has collected 13 dismissals and at least 30 yellow cards.
Having been dismissed in the last outing, he will be absent against Grêmio next Thursday at Arena Crefisa Barueri, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time, the team’s first match after the international break.
