How Real Madrid veteran showed impeccable leadership by supporting young defender vs Sociedad | OneFootball

Dean Huijsen was one of the few Real Madrid players who didn’t have the best of nights in the recent 4-1 win over Real Sociedad.

The young defender made a costly error to concede the penalty, allowing Sociedad to get back into the game.

Thankfully, the mistake didn’t cost Real Madrid much, as goals from Vinicius Jr, Federico Valverde ensured a 4-1 victory for Los Blancos.

How Rudiger lent support to Huijsen

During the game, right after Huijsen’s foul that led to a penalty, Antonio Rudiger showed impeccable leadership by supporting the young defender.

As reported by MARCA, the German international immediately lent his support to Dean Huijsen after the penalty incident.

The veteran defender also kept a close eye on the Spaniard throughout the game, encouraging him at every turn.

When Real Madrid eventually regained the lead, Rudiger made sure to celebrate it with Huijsen, who was a relieved man.

This is indicative of the leadership Rudiger brings to the table and why Real Madrid are betting heavily on the German to see them through the rest of the season, especially on Champions League nights.

As for Huijsen, the club retain full faith in the young defender despite his occasional errors and believe he can be an asset in the years to come.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the former Bournemouth star can slack off easily and continue to make these errors. As we approach the final stretch of the season, Huijsen must lock in and provide some consistency.

Huijsen’s mettle will be tested on Tuesday when the team takes on SL Benfica. He hopes Rudiger will be there to guide him.
