Real Valladolid, 17th in the table, face CD Castellón on Sunday at 14.00 after a busy winter in which they added six signings to try to accelerate their climb. They ended the first half well short of their promotion aims.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that only bottom club Mirandés made more January additions. Castellón lost 1-0 at SkyFi Castalia in the reverse fixture.
The latest arrival was French full-back Clement Michelin, who joined on deadline day on loan from Racing de Santander. He bolsters a back line also reinforced by left-back Carlos Clerc and centre-back Ramón Martínez.
In attack, Norwegian striker Vegard Erlien, Dutch forward Noah Ohio and Uruguayan winger Lucas Sanseviero have come in, the latter stepping up from Danubio. All except the injured Ohio could face Castellón, whose defence will be missing the suspended Brignani and Mellot.
Valladolid will be without midfielder Stanko Juric through suspension after his red card on the last matchday.
Sporting director Víctor Orta said this week he is worried, not fatalistic, and that everyone must give more with stability now the window has shut. He added the aim is to turn that worry into assurance and demand everything, noting the ownership have provided the tools to improve results.
