Title fight goes down to final-day shootout in Glasgow
Celtic host Hearts today in an all-or-nothing shootout for the Scottish Premiership title.
The visitors sit top of the table heading into the final day but must prove their worth at a hostile Celtic Park if they are to become the first non-Old Firm team to clinch the title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen in 1985.
Hearts and Celtic have both pulled clear of third-placed Rangers, but this afternoon’s visitors lead their hosts by one point and five points of goal difference here.
Nothing less than a win will do for Martin O’Neill, then, as he looks to cap his managerial tenure - and a tumultuous season of Glaswegian football - with silverware which might mean slightly more this year than in bygone seasons.
They were aided somewhat in the title race by a controversial VAR decision in their defeat of Motherwell last time out.
Celtic were awarded a late, ultimately decisive penalty after Sam Nicholson was adjudged to have handled the ball while going up for a header.
Kelechi Iheanacho duly dispatched the penalty to secure a 2-1 victory over the Steelmen, which kept them within touching distance of league-leading Hearts heading into this most dramatic of final days.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports Football, with coverage starting at 11.30am ahead of the 12.30pm kick off.
