Manchester United remain firm admirers of Victor Osimhen, who’s poised to leave Napoli permanently this summer.

With no buy clause included in his loan agreement with Galatasaray, the forward will return to Italy upon the culmination of 2024/2025 to presumably hold talks with club chiefs over his future.

He is tied to the side until 2026 but notoriously clashed heads with manager Antonio Conte last summer. Their fallout was so fiery that Osimhen ended up being stripped of his number and removed from Napoli’s Serie A squad list, leaving him no choice but to pursue a new venture.

When a move to Saudi Arabia fell through in the final stages, the Nigerian agreed to spend the campaign with Galatasaray. Unsurprisingly, his prolific goalscoring form has only flourished since donning his new colours, and he has since notched 26 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Alas, it comes as no surprise to again see reports of United being linked with the renowned No.9 – especially at a time when goals have proven incredibly hard to come by for Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee.

Speculation even suggested that a trade deal was being considered by INEOS, which would see Hojlund utilised in a direct swap for Osimhen, although David Ornstein subsequently played down the rumours, deeming them wide of the mark.

Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain materialised their interest by sending Napoli an offer worth £175 million for both Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. It was swiftly rebuffed – but they have since acquired the Georgian international in a £66m deal.

PSG are now satisfied with their attacking options, prompting them to shut down any prospect of returning for Osimhen this summer, as per Sacha Tavolieri. Therefore, you’d expect United will have an almost uncontested run at his signature if they establish their interest early.
