L'Équipe reports that the World Cup record for the oldest head coach changed hands twice within hours on Thursday.
In the opening match, South Africa beat Mexico 2-0, with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, 74 years and two months, setting a new mark.
Later the same day, Czechia’s Miroslav Koubek, 74 years and nine months, became the oldest on the touchline against South Korea.
Both overhauled Otto Rehhagel’s benchmark of 72 years and 10 months, set with Greece at the 2010 World Cup.
Koubek will be surpassed on Sunday at 19:00, when Curaçao begin their campaign under Dick Advocaat, 78, who is at a third World Cup after 1994 with the Netherlands and 2006 with South Korea.
