Hugo Souza has been called up by Brazil for the March international window and may miss Corinthians duty in the Brasileirão. Carlo Ancelotti selected the goalkeeper to replace the injured Alisson Becker.
According to Meu Timao, Brazil play France on 26 March at 17:00 Brasília time in the United States, then Croatia on 31 March at 21:00.
With Alisson out, Hugo competes with Ederson of Fenerbahçe, Türkiye, and Bento of Al-Nassr. The CBF have not released the schedule after the window, so it is unclear if he will be available to face Fluminense on 1 April at 21:30 at the Maracanã.
If that game is a day after Brazil’s, he could miss out. Dorival Júnior would turn to 22-year-old Kauê Camargo, with Felipe Longo still out with an elbow injury.
Hugo was omitted from Monday’s initial list, his first absence since May 2025. Under Ancelotti he made the previous four squads, starting only once in the 3-2 loss to Japan on 14 October, and was cut in November through injury.
Ancelotti had said the goalkeeper picks were not final, offering hope if form improved. This is the last camp before the World Cup list, due on 18 May, days before travel to the United States.
After the 0-0 draw with Chapecoense on Thursday, Hugo said he would keep working, stay calm and do his best for Corinthians while pursuing his World Cup dream.
Corinthians also have André Carrillo with Peru and Memphis Depay with the Netherlands. Before reporting, the trio face Flamengo on Sunday at 20:30 at Neo Química Arena in round eight.
