Rosenior is said to be interested in striking a reunion with his former Hull City loanee

Hull City's current position in the top half of the Championship is one which has earned the Tigers plenty of praise from outsiders, particularly when assessing the one major pre-season predicament which overshadowed all other events at the MKM Stadium.

After a chaotic 2024/25 season under Tim Walter and Ruben Selles, owner Acun Ilicali was quick to remove the latter from his post just 10 days after the club's Championship status was maintained by virtue of goal difference ahead of Luton Town, eventually settling on Bosnian head coach, Sergej Jakirovic as his replacement.

However, less than a month after being installed in the HU3 hotseat, Jakirovic was dealt a somewhat crushing blow in his first pre-season and transfer window, when it was confirmed that the East Yorkshire side were hit with a transfer fee restriction for a period of three windows.

As such, the 48-year-old was only able to recruit free transfers or loan incomings where a fee to cover the temporary switch isn't required.

To his credit, alongside Jared Dublin and new head of recruitment, Martin Hodge, Hull were able to end up enjoying a rather successful transfer window, with the likes of Ivor Pandur and Charlie Hughes retained amid strong interest, as well as welcoming 12 new players, many of whom possess prior Championship experience - none more so than the former Sheffield United duo of John Lundstram and Oli McBurnie.

A quarter of those signings were done on loan, with Lundstram being joined by the returning Joe Gelhardt, Amir Hadziahmetovic and Joel Ndala on that front.

It remains to be seen what business will be done in January, with the Tigers currently outside the play-off places on goal difference at present. A recent coy revelation from Ilicali has only increased speculation of yet another return for a high-profile loanee, but City will have to be wary of activity involving former boss, Liam Rosenior on that front too.

As has become par for the course, the Turkish owner recently hosted a Q&A session with supporters at the MKM Stadium, issuing his thoughts on several on and off-pitch matters.

With Hull currently five unbeaten under Jakirovic, proving many doubters wrong, many are anticipating a rather interesting January window, which is now the only remaining time period in which Hull will find themselves somewhat restricted in the market.

During the session, Ilicali revealed he still remains in contact with former loanee and current Brentford playmaker, Fabio Carvalho, who became a short-term favourite in East Yorkshire after joining on loan from Liverpool in January 2024, much to the disbelief of many.

The attacking midfielder became one of many highly-rated talents to don the black and amber under Rosenior in the 2023/24 season alongside Liam Delap, Jaden Philogene and Tyler Morton, and this was showcased with a total of nine goals in just 20 Championship appearances.

However, a seventh-place finish followed, abruptly ending the now-Strasbourg boss' time in charge, whilst Carvalho returned to Anfield before swiftly moving to West London in a deal worth up to £27.5m.

Yet, just over a year later, his future at the Gtech Community Stadium has become jeopardised, as he is set for crunch talks with Bees boss and former Hull midfielder, Keith Andrews, over his future amid reports that a permanent or temporary January move could be on the cards after being limited to many substitute appearances of late, despite starting and scoring in the EFL Cup rout against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on October 28th.

Understandably, this has increased the aforementioned discourse among the Tigers faithful. However, it must be noted that the man who brought the 23-year-old to the MKM clearly wants to strike a reunion in Alsace, with Strasbourg continuing to ride the crest of a wave.

Since his appointment at the Stade de la Meinau last summer, Rosenior has completely transformed Strasbourg's fortunes and the development of many young talents, such as Habib Diarra, now of Sunderland.

The Ligue 1 side were able to secure a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League last term, and have started the current French top-flight season in impressive fashion, currently residing in fourth after 10 games, which has included a 3-3 draw away to UEFA Champions League holders, PSG.

Joaquin Panichelli has been a standout signing for the club since joining from Alaves, scoring nine times in 10 appearances, whilst other recognisable incomings include Martial Godo, Andrew Omabamidele, Julio Enciso, Mathis Amougou and former England international, Ben Chilwell due to being owned by BlueCo, who also oversee matters at Chelsea.

With Strasbourg continuously on the rise, they have become an attractive proposition for attacking talents to continue their development, which looks set to apply to Carvalho, who was previously the subject of a rejected loan bid in January, whilst it has recently been reported that the French side will be rivalled by Lyon and Stuttgart for his services in the upcoming window.

As such, it seems extremely difficult for an EFL side, such as Hull, to strike a deal, regardless of Ilicali's well-known ambition, meaning they will hope their former boss turns his attention elsewhere to forge a clear pathway of their own.
