Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that she does not expect Manchester City’s focus to shift away from this weekend’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-final, despite their Barclays Women’s Super League title win.

The Blues play host to The Cityzens at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The game comes just days after Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League title success was confirmed.

Manchester City celebrated winning the championship last night but Chelsea boss Bompastor doesn’t expect The Cityzens to be distracted going into the weekend.

“I hope they will party tonight, tomorrow and Saturday,” Bompastor joked when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “You need to enjoy these moments and it’s important for them to celebrate. They are professionals, so players and staff will be ready. They know that it’s an important game for them, there’s a trophy at the end and I am sure they’ll be ready for the game.”

Going on to comment on the game, Bompastor said that the tie provides the opportunity for Chelsea to show their quality.

She said “It’s an opportunity to show that we have quality in our team as well. I think the game on Sunday will be a game between two top teams, a lot of quality on the pitch, so that’s always an opportunity for us to show the quality in our side.

“It’s a really exciting game. As players and managers, we want to be part of these games. Playing at Stamford Bridge with the support of the fans, it will be good if we can get a good performance and a good result.

“The FA Cup is one of our goals this season, so we are focused on Sunday’s semi-final and also, having the opportunity to reach another final.”

Chelsea have missed out on the biggest prize both domestically and in Europe this season but Bompastor believes that a Subway Women’s League Cup and Adobe Women’s FA Cup double would have a positive impact on her squad.

She said “Maybe the reflection from us is that we want to win as many trophies as possible, even when we are not at our best.

“Being able to be in that position is a really good thing and in terms of confidence, would put us in a better place.”
