Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike says he is happy with the way he has adapted to English football – but expects more from himself.

The French striker has enjoyed a strong debut season in English football after joining the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, scoring 13 goals in all competitions so far.

“I would say that I’m happy but I’m hungry for more,” Ekitike said after helping Liverpool reach the Champions League round of 16.

“I expect more from myself. I have to keep working.

“I play for the fans. They give me so much energy. Sometimes in the games, I haven’t scored yet, and to hear your name in the crowd, it’s just a great feeling.

“That’s what I was dreaming of when I was a kid. They made me live that.

“I’m just grateful and I want to give more to them to make them happy.”

Ekitike also says he is enjoying his link up with fellow summer signing Florian Wirtz.

“I gave him a lot of assists,” Ekitike joked. “He needs to give me back now.

“I think we can help the team and score. Obviously, as I said before, he’s a great player. He smells football and I love to play with that kind of player.

“Hopefully, we can just do that and continue each game, every game, keep scoring and give assists to each other.”

Next up for Liverpool is a clash with Newcastle in the Premier League, with Ekitike and his side hoping to bounce back from last week’s loss at Bournemouth.

“Obviously, it’s annoying when you see the last game in Bournemouth,” he said.

“What I can say is that everybody gives 100% of themselves. Obviously, as every team, we have to go through something. We stick together. Hopefully, it’s going to go better.”
