Enzo Maresca has revealed he sees Moises Caicedo as a “six” despite playing him in a number of different positions this season.

Caicedo has been outstanding for the Blues and was named Chelsea Player of The Year and Chelsea Players’ Player of The Year at the club’s end of season awards.

The 23-year-old has been been the stand out performer for the Blues this season, as they look to secure Champions League football with just three games remaining.

Maresca sees Caicedo as a six

Caicedo is vital to Chelsea and his importance has been highlighted by the fact he’s started all 35 of Chelsea’s league games this campaign.

Maresca has described Caicedo as one of the best midfielders in the world, whilst Jason Cundy feels the Ecuadorian is more important to the Blues than Cole Palmer.

Like with a lot of modern players Caicedo is versatile and has played as an inverting right back to great effect on a number of occasions this season.

Speaking ahead of the second leg of Chelsea’s Conference League semi final against Djurgarden on Thursday night, Maresca explained what he felt Caicedo’s best position was.

“I see Moi as a six in the way he is playing since we started,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“In the last games, he played some matches as a full-back off the ball, and then on the ball he is a six, a holding midfielder.”

Al Nassr have shown interest

Caicedo has emerged as a shock target for Saudi side Al Nassr, although it’s thought Chelsea aren’t entertaining the idea of selling one of their star players.

The Blues are planning to offer the Ecuadorian a new contract, although they are said to be in no rush, but he’s believed to be next in line after Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer were rewarded with extensions.

Chelsea have back up arriving for Caicedo in the summer with Dario Essugo set to join from Sporting Lisbon, whilst the midfield will be further reinforced by the return of Andrey Santos.

Midfield is arguably Chelsea’s strongest area in the squad and the Blues will have a brilliant pool of options to choose from next season.
