Rebecca Knaak says she grabbed the chance to join Manchester City with both hands.

The German defender has signed at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2026, subject to international clearance, following her impressive spell with Rosengard between January 2022 and December 2024.

It was there where she worked with the Blues’ new Director of Football, Therese Sjogran – helping the Swedish outfit to two top-flight league titles and the 2022 Svenska Cupen.

Upon her arrival in Manchester, the 2024 Damallsvenskan Defender of the Year admitted having a familiar face already at City provides comfort.

But she revealed it was an easy decision to join the Club after positives talks with Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill and other senior figures.

“The Club was a no-brainer for me,” she declared.

“When I heard about the interest, I didn’t have to think about it because it’s such a big opportunity which I wanted to take.

“I’ve had some really good conversations [with the Club]. It felt really good from the first meeting we had. Now, we’re going to have some more meetings about specific things.

“But I had a really good feeling from the very first day and I was really impressed by how professional and good the talks were, but also on a human level too.

“It was really helpful for me that I already know Therese [Sjogran]. I really trust her and her abilities, so it gives me a good feeling.”

During Gareth Taylor’s tenure at City so far, the Blues have garnered a reputation for playing a brand of aesthetically pleasing and effective passing football.

And Knaak relishing the opportunity to play our style, believing City’s aspirations match her own – on and off the pitch.

She added: “I think the Club has the highest ambitions and goals and this also matches my own ambitions.

“For me, it’s about maximising my own performance, my own development and to do everything I can to get better.

“I think it’s impressive, their playing style, their principles – it’s really impressive. Very dominant, and a lot of great actions with the ball but also in defence.

“It fits like it’s a very structured, dominant team. [They’ve] definitely [played] impressive football so far [this season].”
