Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a 3-0 win over Stade Brestois in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off on Tuesday at Stade de Roudourou, with Ousmane Dembélé scoring twice.

Unless Brest stages a dramatic comeback, PSG will meet either Barcelona or Liverpool in the Round of 16. This dominant performance highlights the impressive form of Luis Enrique’s squad in recent matches.

In their last four games, PSG has outscored opponents 14-3, with victories over RB Salzburg, Manchester City, VfB Stuttgart, and now Brest.

Despite knowing the formidable challenge facing a young PSG squad will bring, one player in Liverpool is excited at the prospect of facing his hometown club.

Ibrahima Konaté sat down with Téléfoot this morning and admitted he hopes to face the team from the French capital, which would be a reunion with his hometown.

“It would be fantastic for me personally because I come from there, my parents and family live there, all my friends are there,” Konaté said (h/t Get French Football News). “I grew up with people in Leipzig, and when it was Leipzig-PSG, they supported PSG instead of supporting me, even though I grew up with them.”

Liverpool must have a fully fit squad ahead of a potential clash with PSG. With that in mind, manager Arne Slot gave a concerning update on Cody Gakpo’s fitness before their 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday at Anfield.

“Cody is a bit of a doubt as well, so let’s wait [to see] how he is today,” Slot said. “I had to take him off [against Everton] because of an injury, because he got a knock, so let’s see how he is today.”
