Rotherham manager Matt Hamshaw has revealed that they’re seriously interested in completing a summer deal for Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore, despite the challenges he endured during his loan spell with them last term.

Gore joined Rotherham on loan in January, but his spell was cut short after he sustained a foot injury early on.

He managed just three appearances for the South Yorkshire side before the setback. Former Rotherham boss Steve Evans went on to question the legitimacy of Gore’s injury and the circumstances under which it occurred – comments that were undoubtedly not received well at Old Trafford.

Gore didn’t feature again for the Millers until the penultimate weekend of the season. He spent most of his recovery period at Carrington, receiving treatment, while managerial changes unfolded at Rotherham. Evans was sacked and replaced by Hamshaw.

Gore’s United contract expires next summer and according to Rich Fay of Manchester World, the Red Devils are open to offers for him.

United are open to sanctioning a permanent exit for Gore, with the midfielder attracting interest from both Blackburn Rovers and Rotherham.

Speaking about Gore, Hamshaw told the Rotherham Advertiser, “I know there is competition for him because he is highly rated at Manchester United and has been in and around their first team.”

“It also known that their manager (Ruben Amorim) likes him.”

“I’m well aware there will probably be other interest. There is a foreign market open now to Manchester United and English players and we will probably have a bit of competition but if we could get him it would be amazing.”

Hamshaw added, “Any deal has to be right for the club. We won’t go out of our means to do something but at the same time if I can get him then I know the chairman will back me on that one.”

“I’m a big admirer of Dan. If I can him, great. If I can’t then I can’t.”

Gore made his senior competitive debut for United against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in September 2023.
