IFAB has outlined measures after the incident involving Gianluca Prestianni and Vinicius Jr during Benfica v Real Madrid. The Benfica winger faces accusations of racist abuse.

According to Glorioso 1904, the body that regulates football’s laws intends to punish players who cover their mouths with their shirt when addressing referees or opponents.

The suggestion follows claims that the Argentine used a racist term towards Vinicius Jr while his face was covered by his shirt.

Further proposals target players who leave the pitch unilaterally in protest at a referee’s decision or at the urging of team-mates.

The measures are being considered in light of the episode. Prestianni was provisionally suspended for Real Madrid v Benfica, and Benfica also drew criticism.

This season for Benfica, Prestianni is valued at 12 million euros and has made 30 appearances, 18 in Liga Portugal Betclic, seven in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 1,460 minutes, he has scored two goals and provided one assist.
