A former Everton chief executive has spoken about regarding the future of Jarrad Branthwaite, claiming that talk of a potential move is merely ‘mischief’.

Keith Wyness, who was employed by Everton for five years during the 2000s, told the Liverpool Echo that “I’m hearing a load of whispers about [Jarrad] Branthwaite joining Liverpool during the week, which I think is more mischief from fans than anything else.”

However, Wyness did concede that fellow Evertonians would be “biting our nails about outgoings and incomings,” particularly in a current period of transfer uncertainty for the toffees.

Reports regarding a potential swap to the red half of Merseyside for Branthwaite have circulated in recent days, with Bet365 slashing its odds on the defender joining Arne Slot’s side.

Branthwaite is not the only Evertonian of the modern era to be linked with a move to Anfield. Former Everton forward Anthony Gordon was seemingly set for a shock move to his former rivals in a deal which would have seen Joe Gomez move to Newcastle United.

Gordon’s move eventually fell through due to a breakdown in negotiations between the two clubs, however Newcastle United are rumoured to still be interested in Gomez, further fuelling speculation about a swap deal.

Could Joe Gomez be on the move to Newcastle?

Branthwaite made 35 Premier League appearances for the toffees last season, netting three times as well as ensuring 12 clean sheets for his side.

Sean Dyche on Branthwaite future

Whilst his future remains uncertain, Dyche has addressed the future of Branthwaite in a recent press conference amidst alleged interest from other clubs, including Manchester United.

Dyche claimed that “I’m confident that the club are going to do the best they can to make sure we’re competitive but equally the club’s got an outside picture which is quite obvious and that’s not something that I can control."
