Chelsea’s attack more than their defence has been the element with more struggles so far this season.

With Levi Colwill out for the season and Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana constantly injured too, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo have a lot on their shoulders.

Jamie Redknapp on Alejandro Garnacho’s mistake.

On the London is Blue podcast last week, Matt Law discussed that issue and whether the Blues would consider going into the market in January:

“So far the centre backs have looked good, I was glad that they kept faith in the centre backs that they’ve got at the club after Colwill’s injury,” Law said, speaking before Saturday’s game.

“I suspect that was always done with the eye on ‘well see if we need to do something in January,’ so I think certainly the centre backs one is the one they will be keeping a close eye on to see if they need to do something in January.”

Will Chelsea change their mind before then? Their hope is clearly that Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr continue to improve while on loan and can come into the squad next season.

However, some people have already pointed out that a team with the likes of Gabriel or Virgil Van Dijk just don’t concede a goal like the equaliser on Saturday, where a long throw was allowed to be flicked on in the 92nd minute.

Are any of the players in our squad up to that level? Perhaps not. Can someone like Anselmino or Sarr reach that level? Maybe, but it’s a huge ask for them and a big gamble from the club to hope that that’s the case.
