One of Liverpool's transfer targets has confirmed that a move will happen. The Reds have their golden opportunity.
Liverpool are about to jump into another transfer window, with things kicking off on January 1st. There’s work to be done, certainly, after a complicated start to the season.
The Reds spent record-breaking amounts to rebuild their title-winning squad but things haven’t quite worked out. They’ve been inconsistent to say the least - and more changes are on the way.
At least one of those changes will surely come in midfield. It’s the one area of the squad that Liverpool didn’t touch over the summer, instead opting to stick with what they had at the first-team level.
Really, the only change was to swap out Tyler Morton for Stefan Bajcetic as the ‘backup’ midfielder. Bajcetic, however, just hasn’t been able to remain fit and actually get games.
Thus that role as the ‘young’ midfielder is pretty open. And Liverpool may have a chance to snap up a truly elite one.
Liverpool have consistently been linked with Kees Smit over the course of the season. The teenager is one of the brightest prospects in European football - someone playing 90 minutes every week at 19.
Smit, though, isn’t expected to remain with AZ Alkmaar for very long. In fact, Smit himself doesn’t believe he’s sticking around.
“Yes, I think so [a move could happen],” Smit told De Telegraaf. "I think six months, or a year and a half.
