On 6 October 2024, Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal suffered one of the worst injuries a footballer can endure.

After clearing a ball and making accidental contact with Yeremy Pino in a La Liga game against Villarreal, his agonising scream silenced the entire Santiago Bernabeu.

Clearly in severe pain, the defender left the pitch in tears, stretchered off. Soon after, it was confirmed that the Spanish international had ruptured his ACL and might not play again this season.

Return getting closer

Five months later, the outlook surrounding Carvajal’s recovery continues to be highly positive and the right-back is starting to finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

Indeed, earlier today, Real Madrid posted a video on their social media in which Carvajal can be seen back training on the pitch at Valdebebas, in what marks a significant step in his recovery.

Providing an update on his condition in the clip, Carvajal said: “When you step on the grass with your boots on, you see the comeback closer.

“I never thought I would have that feeling when doing a very light, individual training session.”

Concluding, he said: “One day less.”

Carvajal’s recovery is progressing very well and even though he might not be ready in time to play before La Liga ends, there is hope that the Spaniard can make his comeback in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
