Besides Como, Roma could face an unexpected foe for Cesc Fabregas, as Inter would be in the mix if Simone Inzaghi gave in to Al-Hilal’s courtship. At this stage, the Lariani are in pole position to keep the young manager, but the Nerazzurri’s possible appearance could change the scenario, Alfredo Pedullà informs.
The Biancoblù believe they have successfully staved off the capital club by matching their offer on personal terms with a three-year contract with €5M wages plus add-ons. The Spaniard let the decision up to the two teams without necessarily pushing to leave.
On the other hand, Fabregas might do that if Inter indeed materialized. Inzaghi hasn’t accepted the Saudi offer for now. President Giuseppe Marotta voiced his optimism about his permanence, but the Champions League final is delaying all the decisions about the future.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via OneFootball), the gaffer was already due for a pay bump and will also seek a longer contract. Moreover, he expects reinforcements after a few frugal summers. The Nerazzurri can’t promise the same lofty numbers as Al-Hilal, but they plot to spend about €40M for a new striker.
He has been superb since taking over Como, and his experience at the highest level as a player is promising for his future, but that’s quite the salary for somebody so green. The Arab interest seems more like a negotiating tool than a real threat in the Nerazzurri boss’ case. Given their shrewdness and habit to plan in advance, it’d be stunning if they really didn’t have certainties about their bench yet, even with the UCL final holding things up.
