Reports in Italy claim that Inter and Liverpool are moving closer towards an agreement for England international Curtis Jones, but there are still a few knots to untie, including the size of a potential sell-on clause.
Double-winners Inter are already plotting moves ahead of the summer transfer window and look set to rejuvenate their midfield department: Liverpool’s Jones and Roma’s Manu Kone among the names to be linked with a move to San Siro.
Local lad Jones has been on Liverpool’s books since the age of nine and has gone on to make 228 competitive appearances for the first team, including 153 in the Premier League. He is heading into the final year of his contract at Anfield and the latest reports indicate that he could be on the move in the coming months.
Inter had sought to arrange a deal for Jones during the January transfer window, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Recent updates claim that the Nerazzurri are back in negotiations for the 25-year-old and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that he is now the club’s ‘first choice’ for the midfield department, even ahead of Roma’s Kone.

Despite the fact that Jones will soon be into the final year of his contract, recent reports claim that Liverpool are holding out for a fee of €30m, potentially as high as €35m. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Inter are willing to pay around €22m, potentially up to €25m with bonuses.
The Pink Paper reports that there was a meeting between Inter and Liverpool representatives in Monte Carlo on Wednesday, which has not resulted in an agreement for Jones, but there are positive signals that the parties are moving closer.

Aside from the price tag, another knot for Inter to untie is the size of Jones’s re-sale clause. The Nerazzurri would ideally like to keep it to a minimum, but Liverpool reportedly want a larger percentage of the player’s next transfer if they are to lower their current asking price.
