Inter Miami crashed out of the Champions Cup after a 1-1 aggregate home draw with Nashville SC, on the final night at Inter Miami CF Stadium (previously Chase Stadium and DRV PNK Stadium). According to interheron.com, the tournament had been set as a must win.
Lionel Messi struck in the seventh minute to put the hosts ahead. Cristian Espinoza equalised in the 74th minute and Miami could not summon enough attacking thrust to respond.
The display was undermined by tactical calls, with a suspect four-four-two preferred by Javier Mascherano and the ill advised withdrawal of Telasco Segovia. Miami were left outnumbered in midfield and struggled to control the contest thereafter.
Player ratings credited Messi with an eight along with his 900th career goal. Dayne St. Clair received six, Sergio Reguilón five, and Micael 6.4 as the pick of the centre-backs. Yannick Bright earned 6.4 before being withdrawn, Rodrigo De Paul 6.1 was viewed out of position, and Segovia 6.6.
German Berterame was given five. From the bench, Noah Allen scored seven, David Ayala 6.2 and Mateo Silvetti 6.3, while Luis Suarez did not play long enough for a rating. With Miami out, attention turns to trying to reclaim MLS Cup.
