Inter Milan talisman Lautaro Martinez picked up where he left off, netting a brace on his return from injury in a 5-2 rout of Roma.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the current Serie A top scorer is seeking another landmark season.
Lautaro Martinez won the Capocannoniere award in Inter’s last title-winning campaign back in 2023/24.
Fast forward two years, and El Toro is on the verge of hoisting the same prize again.
Indeed, the 28-year-old has netted 16 goals in 26 league appearances this term, at least five more than any other player in the division.
Meanwhile, Cristian Chivu’s men boast a seven-point lead over second-placed Napoli, with only seven games left to play.
Despite a month-long injury layoff, the Argentine goal-getter looked as sharp as ever in Sunday’s clash against Roma.
Indeed, he opened the scoring inside the first minute before completing his first league double since November at the start of the second half.
In doing so, Lautaro has put more distance between himself and Como forward Anastasios Douvikas.
Furthermore, El Toro has now scored at least 15 goals in five of his eight seasons at San Siro, solidifying his reputation as one of Serie A’s most prolific strikers.
