Nerazzurri assistant coach Massimiliano Farris feels that Inter Milan are “in line with expectations” for this season.
Farris spoke in a press conference after yesterday’s Serie A win over Empoli, as reported by FCInterNews. He gave a positive appraisal of Inter’s season to date.
Yesterday, Inter caught up to within three points of Napoli in the Serie A table.
And that is with a game in hand on the Partenopei.
Therefore, it would be fair to say that Inter are neither in a commanding position in the title race, nor are they lagging behind.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League, Inter have a very good chance of booking their place directly in the round of sixteen.
There is the disappointment of the Supercoppa Italiana. This is the first season that Inter have not won that trophy under Simone Inzaghi.
But on the other hand, there is the Coppa Italia to come. Inter face a quarterfinal showdown with Lazio next month.
Inter assistant coach Farris noted that “We’re in the running for every competition.”
“We’ve just had the one slip-up in the league,” he noted. “And then we’ve had twelve wins and three goals.”
“We’re in line with our goals and expectations,” Farris insisted.
Meanwhile, Farris said that “maybe against Bologna” there was a bit of a Supercoppa hangover.
“That was a match that asked a lot of us physically,” the Inter assistant coach noted.
“Bologna deserved the point,” Farris admitted.
“We were sorry to draw the match. But we had the mental strength to move forward.”
Then, Farris also gave an answer to a question about whether Francesco Acerbi could play against Sparta Prague on Wednesday.
“The medical staff are doing their best,” he said.
“And we need squad rotation.”
“But there are no guarantees,” the Inter assistant coach noted. “Everyone has their own journey.”
