Manchester United are looking to get rid of multiple big-name players in a bid to raise capital, which can then be reinvested into the first-team squad.
Players who spent last season out on loan are expected to be the first to depart, and that list includes the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony.
The Mancunian left in January to join Aston Villa after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim. Initially, Barcelona were in pole position, but the Catalans failed to agree personal terms and the Englishman opted to move to Birmingham.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a productive spell under Unai Emery, scoring four times while registering six assists in 10 starts across all competitions.
Villa had the option of converting the loan into a permanent deal for £40 million, but following their last-day defeat to Amorim’s side, they ended up failing to qualify for the Champions League, thus ending the chance of being able to afford the Carrington graduate’s wages.
Once again, the England international’s future is in limbo, with the Red Devils making it clear that he has no future at Old Trafford.
The United No.10 was hoping for the Catalans to come in again, but they are steering clear due to INEOS’ asking price and the player’s wage demands.
Now, F365 have relayed that Inter Milan are ready to pounce and win the race for the English star, and have already begun negotiations with United.
“Barça is finding the potential signing of Marcus Rashford increasingly complicated. The Old Trafford side has been very firm about this, making it clear that they will only open the door to him if it is in exchange for an offer of up to €40 million.
“A price that Camp Nou considers exorbitant, and they have many doubts about whether it’s worth paying. Hans-Dieter Flick is also not entirely convinced by the potential arrival of the English star. He recommends studying other alternatives to improve the attack, even if they may be more expensive, such as Luis Díaz or Rafael Leao.
All of this has meant that Rashford’s arrival at Barça is currently at a complete standstill. Furthermore, other teams have now emerged that are also interested in signing the 27-year-old striker, and that they can easily afford to pay the fee the Red Devils are demanding in return.
“This is the case with Inter Milan, who want to invest in him to complete their attack, and have him fight for a starting spot with Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez. The Nerazzurri have already begun negotiations to remove him from United. And at the Giuseppe Meazza, they’re very optimistic about signing Rashford, taking advantage of the doubts surrounding Barça. Furthermore, they’ve improved the proposal Laporta and Deco had prepared.”
It remains to be seen which team ultimately pay what INEOS are demanding. There have been murmurs that Marcus Rashford could wait it out until the end to secure a cut-price exit to Barcelona. United should avoid this scenario at all costs.
Inter are also eyeing Rasmus Hojlund, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and now the Mancunian. Let’s see which deal ultimately gets completed in time.
