Inter’s sequence of six wins in the derby came to a screeching halt yesterday.

The Nerazzurri lost 2-1 to city rivals AC Milan in this evening’s derby. That was the first time since September of 2022 that the Rossoneri have won in the fixture.

And in truth, Inter were second best to their city rivals for much of the match.

Milan looked the side with more energy and coordination, creating a number of dangerous chances between Christian Pulisic’s early opener and Matteo Gabbia’s late winning goal.

Inter found the back through Federico Dimarco off the back of a well-worked team goal.

But far too often the Nerazzurri allowed Milan to dictate the pace of proceedings.

Inter captain Martinez started yesterday evening’s match.

And it was yet another match without a goal for the Argentine, who has yet to find the back of the net this season.

Martinez did provide the assist for Federico Dimarco’s goal in the first half.

But beyond goals and assists, it was not the most emphatic of performances from the Argentine.

Usually, Martinez is the player who sets the tone for Inter with his defensive workrate and linkup play.

But against Milan this evening, the entire team looked flat.

Lautaro Martinez Message After Inter Loss Vs AC Milan: “Head Down, Keep Working”

Inter captain admitted that going another match without a goal is “definitely” worrying.

Particularly in a match as important as the derby.

“But I’m focused on the team,” the Inter captain made clear. “I work for the good of Inter.”

“Sometimes when I can’t score, I try to do other things,” Martinez continued.

“But now I have to work.”

The 27-year-old promised, “I’ll put my head down and keep working.”

“As I’ve always done throughout my career.”

“And then, it’s no problem The goal will come eventually.”
