Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel is a wanted man, as Bologna and others join Inter Milan in the race for his signature.
The 32-year-old has been a regular starter for the Biancocelesti since making the move from Spezia in the summer of 2022. This season, he made 27 appearances in Serie A, conceding as many goals and registering an impressive 12 clean sheets. However, Provedel’s season-ending injury in March paved the way for Edoardo Motta’s meteoric rise to prominence.
Moreover, Christos Mandas could return to Formello following a forgettable loan stint in England, as Bournemouth appear unlikely to exercise their option to buy the player for €17 million. Even Alessio Furlanetto proved to be a competent shot-stopper in his outing against Roma, making a case for a more prominent role than a third choice.
Amid the abundance of options, many sources expect Provedel to depart this summer, especially with his contract expiring next year. The Friulian is an option for Inter Milan, who are searching the market for an experienced goalkeeper to replace Yann Sommer and act as Josep Martinez’s backup.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Italian champions aren’t alone in the race, as Atalanta might attempt to reunite Provedel with Maurizio Sarri, who is edging closer to joining La Dea. The 32-year-old has always enjoyed the manager’s esteem and appreciation.
Nevertheless, Pedulla believes Bologna could be the frontrunners in the race, as they’re willing to offer Provedel the opportunity to play regularly, unlike Inter and Atalanta, where he would be an understudy. The Rossoblu’s General Director, Gianluca Sartori, has reportedly identified the Lazio stalwart as his first choice for this role ahead of Lecce’s Wladimiro Falcone.
The transfer market expert adds that Fiorentina could also emerge as an option for Provedel if David De Gea ends up leaving the Tuscan club this summer.
