Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will be hoping he can end his goal drought away to Cagliari, the fixture he scored his first Nerazzurri goal in.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter captain Martinez has managed to find the back of the net 135 times for the Nerazzurri.
The Argentine has been the club’s top scorer in each of the past three seasons.
And Martinez had to start somewhere.
Martinez was not a regular in the starting eleven or a prolific scorer right away at Inter. He joined in the summer of 2018.
But on September 29, 2018, Martinez did get his chance, and took it. He scored his first goal for Inter, in a 2-0 win away to Cagliari.
Now, Martinez will be hoping that a return to Sardinia triggers something in him.
The Inter captain has gone nearly two months without scoring in an Inter shirt.
That is not due to being absent with injury. He has simply not had his shooting boots.
For a player well into triple digits in a Nerazzurri shirt, that’s worrying form.
But the feeling remains that Martinez just needs that one decisive moment to reverse the trend and unlock his goalscoring form.
Therefore, the 27-year-old will be hoping that the Unipol Domus in Cagliari can be just as important for him now as it was when he was just beginning his Inter career.
