Inter Milan are edging closer to signing young Argentinian defender Tomas Palacios, as they hope he can follow in the footsteps of Yann Bisseck.

The Nerazzurri have been looking to shore up Simone Inzaghi’s backline by adding a new left-footed defender.

The Italian champions have finally found the right profile in Palacios. They are currently negotiating a transfer with Independiente Rivadavia which will reportedly cost them circa 6.5 million euros in addition to bonuses.

Nevertheless, Inter believe the Argentine’s value can significantly rise in the future, especially if he manages to replicate Bisseck’s success, notes Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews.

The German defender arrived at Inter last season as a relative unknown. He started his career at Koln and represented several other clubs.

When the Nerazzurri poached the 23-year-old, he had been plying his trade in Denmark with Aarhus.

Yet, Bisseck proved to be a reliable option at the back. He has now cemented himself as the main understudy for Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman remains Inzaghi’s first choice for the right centre-back role.

Inter Milan Hope Tomas Palacios Can Emulate Yann Bisseck

As for Palacios, he would likely play a similar role at Appiano Gentile. The Talleres youth product would act as a backup for Alessandro Bastoni.

However, the Nerazzurri have an incredibly packed schedule ahead. This includes Serie A fixtures, Coppa Italia ties, an expanded Champions League format, the Italian Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup next summer.

Therefore, there will be plenty of opportunities for every member of the squad to prove his worth, including Palacios.

The Roman newspaper also reveals another similarity between the Bisseck and Palacios operations, with Argentinian agent Marcelo Simonian acting as the main catalyst behind both deals.

Simonian also worked to bring Ricky Alvarez and Ever Banega to Inter. On the other hand, Javier Pastore’s transfer to the Nerazzurri didn’t reach fruition.
