Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi will not make drastic changes to his starting line-up for this evening’s must-win clash against Empoli.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri head coach will play it safely, fielding his strongest XI at Stadio Carlo Castellani.
Marred by several high-profile injury setbacks, Inter shared the spoils with arch-rivals Juventus on Sunday.
Inzaghi’s charges let a two-goal lead slip through their grasp in a gut-wrenching 4-4 home draw, losing further ground on Napoli.
With seven points separating the sides ahead of tonight’s kick-off, Inter must return to the win column.
Therefore, Simone Inzaghi will not take any chances rotating his first-team stalwarts at this critical juncture.
However, there will be several modifications at the back.
Yann Bisseck should take Benjamin Pavard’s place in the back three alongside Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij.
Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries will reportedly return to the bench in favor of Matteo Darmian.
Inzaghi’s initial idea was to deploy Kristjan Asllani as Hakan Calhanoglu’s deputy at the Castellani.
But the Albanian midfielder has yet to regain full fitness.
Indeed, the 23-year-old suffered an injury while on international duty with Sylivnho’s team.
Yesterday, he had to wear a bandage on his knee in training.
As such, Piotr Zielinski will likely retain his position in the engine room.
The Poland international excelled in his first Serie A start for Inter, bagging a first-half brace at the weekend.
Though both strikes came from the spot, it takes nothing away from Zielinski’s impressive showing.
In addition to the ex-Napoli ace, Nicolo Barella and Davide Frattesi should start in the midfield.
On the other hand, Inzaghi has seemingly given up the idea of benching Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram this evening.
Both star forwards should commence the match in Tuscany.
