Inter Milan and Napoli are contesting the tightest Serie A title race since 2012.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that this is just the fourth time in the three-points-for-a-win era that a single point has separated two teams at the top at this stage of the season.

Right now, Inter Milan are one point behind Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.

The Nerazzurri gained some ground last weekend. They beat Torino, while Napoli had to settle for a draw against Genoa.

It is still advantage Napoli. Their fate is in their hands, whilst Inter will have to hope that the Partenopei slip up.

But there is absolutely zero margin for error for the league leaders now.

As the Gazzetta notes, the last time thing were this tight at the top was in the 2011-12 season.

At the climax of that campaign, Juventus and AC Milan were locked in a heated battle for top spot. It was the Bianconeri who would prevail, kicking off a run of nine straight title wins for them.

Meanwhile, Juventus also won in similar margins a decade earlier. And that is a title race that will be regrettably familiar for Inter.

The Nerazzurri famously lost 4-2 away to Napoli on the final day of that season, a result that saw them slip behind Juventus and also Roma.

Then, the Gazzetta note, the 1994-95 title race saw Milan and Lazio separated by just a point with two matches to go.

The Rossoneri overtook the Biancocelesti right at the decisive moment that time around.
