Inter Milan players, coaching staff, and club directors were all in agreement on the decision to stop playing after Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove suffered a shock medical emergency.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Yesterday, the Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi came to a sudden and dramatic halt.
This was the result of a medical emergency for Viola midfielder Edoardo Bove. The 22-year-old collapsed during the first half and was unconscious.
There was significant confusion and tension in the immediate aftermath of Bove’s collapse.
Then, both sets of players went to the dressing room.
Initially, yesterday’s match was only temporarily suspended due to Bove’s medical emergency.
But then, it became clear that the two teams would not resume playing yesterday evening.
Inter President Beppe Marotta said that the decision not to return to the pitch was “spontaneous.”
And according to the Gazzetta, all of the Inter players and coaching staff were in agreement.
No one wanted to go back onto the pitch after the emotional shock they’d just experienced.
Equally, the referees were also in no mood to continue.
Therefore, the match will instead resume at a later date.
