Inter Milan are closing in on a move for Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel.
According to The Laziali, an agreement in principle on personal terms is in place, with the 32-year-old accepting a pay cut to join the Serie A champions.
The proposed deal is three years at €1.5 million plus bonuses, with Inter intent on keeping their wage hierarchy so Provedel would earn less than Josep Martinez. His current salary at Lazio is about €2 million.
Inter are seeking an experienced deputy with Yann Sommer departing. Cristian Chivu has promoted Martinez to first-choice and wants a seasoned back-up beside him.
At Lazio, new head coach Gennaro Gattuso is expected to turn to Christos Mandas as No.1. Bournemouth still hope to keep the Greek but are unwilling to trigger the €18 million option. Edoardo Motta is tipped to be Mandas’ understudy, leaving Provedel surplus.
Provedel’s agent, Gianni Rava, met Inter officials at the club’s headquarters on Wednesday. Attention now turns to talks with Claudio Lotito, who wants €4-5 million despite the goalkeeper’s contract expiring next year, and Inter executives Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will try to lower the fee.
