Inter Milan are ready to revive their pursuit of Manu Kone this summer as Roma face increasing pressure to raise funds before June 30th to comply with financial fair play regulations, a scenario that could finally open the door for the Nerazzurri to land their long-term midfield target.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma know Inter are watching closely.
The Nerazzurri attempted to sign Kone last summer but the deal collapsed, partly due to the intervention of then-coach Claudio Ranieri, who refused to let the midfielder leave.
That situation could soon look very different.
Roma paid €18 million plus €2 million in bonuses for Kone two summers ago.
By next summer, his book value will sit at around €11 million.
An Inter offer above €40 million, potentially reaching €50 million, would generate a capital gain of over €30 million for Roma.
That profit figure is not coincidental.
It matches almost exactly what Sassuolo are asking for Ismael Koné, a player Roma have already identified as a potential replacement.
The Canadian midfielder arrived at Sassuolo last summer from Marseille for €2.5 million on loan with a conditional obligation to buy of €10.5 million, already exercised in February.
The interconnected nature of the two deals makes the overall scenario entirely plausible, and Inter are very much aware of it.
