Keita has since become a key figure at Parma, overcoming a difficult start that included a red card just minutes into his debut.

Now a regular presence, he continues to build his reputation under current coach Carlos Cuesta, who has also left a strong impression.

“He’s intelligent. Before I joined Parma, we spoke on the phone and didn’t talk about football but about life. He made a great impression on me straight away.”

Off the pitch, Keita has embraced his surroundings in Italy.

“What I like about Parma is the calm and the kindness of the people. And the food, of course: torta fritta and prosciutto. The club feels like a family, we are all young and very close.”

Looking back at his inspirations, he added: “Barcelona has always been my reference team, and Ronaldinho was my hero. I admired his charisma. I would have loved to play with him, or with Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets. For me, that was football.”

With Chivu’s trust already established and Inter monitoring his progress, Keita could yet take the next step in his career with a move to Milan.
