Liverpool tried everything possible to sign Marc Guehi last summer, but a move to Merseyside did not materialise.
Many people believe Liverpool will return for Guehi as they prepare for the probable departure of Ibrahima Konate.
Virgil Van Dijk is entering the twilight of his career, and Guehi fits the bill as a long-term successor.
The Reds were widely expected to sign Guehi on a free transfer, but they now face competition from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are considering bidding for the Crystal Palace star in January.
They could potentially add Yann Bisseck to sweeten the deal.
However, it is unclear whether Palace will let their captain go in the middle of such a pivotal campaign.
Liverpool cannot afford to let Guehi slip through their grasp again.
The 25-year-old has developed into a commanding, modern centre-back. He is comfortable on the ball, tactically astute and a vocal organiser at the heart of defence.
He brings the kind of leadership and composure that could make Liverpool’s faltering backline solid again.
Beyond his defensive attributes, Guehi’s ability to progress the ball under pressure and build from the back aligns perfectly with the tactical principles of the modern Liverpool side.
Allowing other clubs to swoop in would be a massive setback in their rebuild.
These clubs thrive on securing top-level players without transfer fees, and Liverpool must not let history repeat itself.
The Reds must act decisively, present a clear vision and convince Guehi that Anfield is the ideal place to reach his full potential.
