Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries may not return to the starting lineup in Saturday’s home league clash against Atalanta.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the Dutchman’s highly-awaited return to the starting XI is not a foregone conclusion.

It has been more than five months since Denzel Dumfries made his last start in Serie A.

Indeed, the 29-year-old suffered a severe ankle injury during Inter’s 2-0 home win over Lazio at the start of November.

After undergoing surgery in December, the Dutch wingback had to wait for a few more months before returning to action.

However, he has recently resumed full training and even made a couple of cameo appearances in all competitions.

Cristian Chivu had hoped to bring Dumfries back to his starting eleven on Saturday.

Yet, it may not be possible, as the former PSV Eindhoven is still lacking match fitness.

With that in mind, underperforming Brazilian star Luis Henrique could retain his place on the right wing despite his poor form.

Indeed, the 24-year-old faltered in last weekend’s Milan derby, losing track of Pervis Estupinan, who won the match for AC Milan.

However, with Dumfries yet to regain full fitness, the ex-Marseille ace could get another chance to start.
