Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu is prepared to hand a chance to Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martinez in Sunday’s match against Sassuolo.

Speculation in the Italian press suggested that the Spaniard would replace Yann Sommer in Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Ajax.

This came after a shaky performance for the experienced Swiss shot-stopper in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

Fans and the press slammed Sommer and urged Chivu to give Martinez an opportunity.

However, Chivu kept his faith in Sommer and the Swiss international kept a clean sheet against Ajax.

According to today’s reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Romanian is ready to give Martinez a chance.

Therefore, the reports suggest that Chivu could give the Spaniard the edge over Sommer in Sunday’s match against Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri welcome the Neroverdi to San Siro in a must-win game for Inter.

However, Chivu is considering a number of changes from the side that beat Ajax in Amsterdam.
