Inter Milan are preparing to go all-out for Manu Kone this summer, and are ready to use Davide Frattesi as a sweetener to convince Roma to sell the France midfielder they have coveted since last year.
Koné is Inter’s number one midfield target for next season.
Last summer Roma blocked the move.
This time, according to Tuttosport, via FCInter1908, Inter plan to return with a more compelling package.
The sporting context has shifted.
If Chivu wins the Scudetto, he carries significantly more authority, both at the negotiating table with the board and in pushing through his tactical vision.
That vision has always centred on a switch to a 3-4-2-1, built around a physically imposing midfielder and a creative, unpredictable attacker.
Koné fits the first requirement perfectly.
Frattesi will leave Inter this summer.
A move to Roma sits among his preferred options, and Inter could use that to their advantage, offering him as part of the Koné deal to reduce the cash outlay.
However, Roma have their own demands.
Gian Piero Gasperini rates Carlos Augusto highly and the Giallorossi could push for the Brazilian as part of any agreement.
That complicates things.
Inter consider Carlos Augusto a versatile and valuable asset they are reluctant to lose.
His contract renewal talks have been placed on hold while he assesses what playing time next season might bring.
That uncertainty, combined with Roma’s interest, makes his future one of the most intriguing subplots of the summer.
Koné’s market value sits at around €40 million.
Inter believe the combination of Frattesi and cash could unlock a deal Roma struggled to refuse last time. The negotiations will be complex, but the intent is clear.
