Inter Milan wingback Matteo Darmian feels that more important than his goal against Venezia was the fact that the team won.
The Italian international spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, following his Man Of The Match performance in the 1-0 Serie A victory.
Darmian scored a decisive goal for Inter against Venezia.
It was a tight contest at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
But one goal was enough for Inter to take three points and get themselves back on track in the Serie A title race.
Darmian was not exactly the likeliest of scorers. But he has shown in the past that he often pops up when it counts.
And it was the veteran former Manchester United defender who was on hand to turn in the rebound after Venezia keeper Filip Stankovic saved Inter captain Lautaro Martinez’s shot.
After the match, Darmian said that the victory was “absolutely” the most important thing.
“We’ve seen how difficult all matches are in Serie A,” continued the 35-year-old.
“Venezia have proven themselves to be an organized team with quality. But we wanted to keep going down our path.”
“We played a good match,” Darmian continued. “And we won, that was the most important thing.”
Of his getting into a goalscoring position from the back three, Darmian commented that “We work a lot on our movement on the pitch.”
“No matter who ends up in the box.”
“I found myself in front of goal and scored,” Darmian noted. “And helped the team bring home the win.”
And of praise from teammate Nicolo Barella, Darmian said that “It’s beautiful.”
“Coming from a top player like him, it’s worth even more.”
