Inter Milan have renewed their interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones as they continue their search for reinforcements ahead of the new Serie A season.
The Italian champions remain keen on signing the England international despite seeing an earlier approach rejected by Liverpool earlier this summer.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool turned down an opening bid worth around €25 million before making it clear they value Jones at closer to €40 million.
Inter have since returned through intermediaries with an improved proposal of €35 million, although that still falls short of Liverpool’s asking price.
The Premier League club are understood to have little interest in lowering their valuation.
Jones has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield, but Liverpool’s stance has remained unchanged throughout negotiations.
Club officials are reportedly prepared to risk the midfielder leaving on a free transfer in 2027 rather than accept an offer they believe undervalues one of their longest-serving first-team players.
Liverpool have also pointed to Tottenham Hotspur’s €40 million signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid earlier this year as a benchmark for Jones’ market value.
Inter’s admiration for the midfielder is not new.
The Nerazzurri also explored a deal during the January transfer window, proposing an initial loan with an option to buy, but Liverpool rejected that approach without hesitation.
The Serie A club have now returned with a permanent transfer in mind as they look to strengthen their midfield following another domestic title-winning campaign.
Jones has spent his entire professional career at Liverpool after progressing through the club’s academy.
Since making his senior debut in 2019, the midfielder has established himself as a dependable member of the first-team squad, making more than 220 appearances while contributing goals, assists and versatility across several midfield roles.
His technical quality, ball retention and ability to operate in multiple positions have ensured he remains a valued option despite increased competition for places.
Although there are currently no active discussions over a contract extension, Liverpool are understood to be open to negotiating fresh terms if an agreement can eventually be reached.
For now, however, their priority is retaining the midfielder unless Inter are prepared to meet their valuation.
With the Italian club still determined to secure his signature and Liverpool refusing to compromise on the fee, negotiations could continue deep into the transfer window before Jones’ future is finally resolved.
