Francesco Pio Esposito might have some fans in the Premier League thanks to a very solid maiden Serie A campaign, but Inter have no plans to lose him and are laying the groundwork for an extension. They plot for him to be a cornerstone for years to come, TuttoSport reports.
The starlet scored his ninth seasonal goal against Fiorentina on Monday. He has added six assists for good measure. He has clicked with Lautaro Martinez right away and has often outshone Marcus Thuram.
Esposito is under contract with Inter until 2030, but his €1.1M salary is modest relative to his performances and current status. The previous renewal came to be while he was on loan at Spezia. The Nerazzurri brass is open to raising his wages to €4M and tack on another year.
The talent has drawn the attention of Arsenal and Newcastle United in particular. His agent Mario Giuffredi recently weighed in on Radio CRC (via Il Meridiano).
“He’s fine at Inter, and he’ll be their future for the next 10 years. He’s in love with the team. He has been likened to Christian Vieri, but I don’t like to make comparisons with youngsters. They only generate pointless expectations. He has to be his own player and develop his personal style.”
His first season couldn’t have gone any better, and he’s as untouchable as it gets. Since the pairing with Martinez has worked wonders, and instead Thuram has been in a long funk and hasn’t stepped up when he needed to, the idea of selling the Frenchman and just trusting the youth product, which would have looked foolish a year ago, isn’t that foreign now.
