As a result of the win against Feyenoord, Inter have qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Vincent Kompany's Bayern München side await us: the first-leg will be played on 8/9 April in München, with the second-leg being played on 15/16 April at San Siro. The schedule for the quarter-finals will be confirmed on 13 March, following the completion of the Round of 16.

The clash between the Nerazzurri and the Bavarian side is an historic European rivalry, with nine previous encounters, most notably the 2010 final in Madrid. The overall tally reads: three wins for Inter, five for Bayern München, one draw, nine goals for the Nerazzurri and 13 for Bayern.

THE MOST RECENT MEETING

Inter are facing Bayern München for the first time since the since the sides met in the group stage of the Champions League 2022/23 (two 2-0 wins for the Bavarian side), the edition of the competition in which the Nerazzurri faced Manchester City in the final. Benjamin Pavard scored in the game in München before moving to Inter the following season.

THAT PANDEV GOAL ...

In 2011, the two sides faced off in the Champions League Round of 16. After the first-leg at San Siro decided by Gomez's goal, the two sides met again in München on 15 March 2011 and Inter provided an incredible comeback. Four minutes in to the game, Eto'o put Inter into the lead, but Gomez and Muller scored to put Bayern ahead on the half hour mark. In the second half, Sneijder score a goal from distance to equalise and then Pandev sealed the tie with a precise left-footed finish to put Inter in to the quarter-finals.

THE FAMOUS NIGHT IN MADRID

The night of 22 May 2010 in Madrid: the final against Bayern is legendary. The two goals from Prince Diego Milito are moments that will stay with every Inter fan forever. The second goal was trademark Milito, he faced the defender, feinted, cut inside and shot. Inter returned to the top of Europe, 45 years after their last triumph: it was the third Champions League/European Cup win for the Nerazzurri, which was lifted by Javier Zanetti, at the Santiago Bernabeu filled with ecstatic Inter fans.

VIEIRA IN THE 91ST MINUTE

There was another double header in the 2006/07 season, when both sides met on the second and final matchday of Group B in the group stage. After the defeat at San Siro, the Nerazzurri scored a goal in the final minutes on the away trip to Bavaria. The home side went ahead through Makaay but conceded an equaliser from Vieira in the 91st minute. At the end of the group stage, Inter qualified for the Round of 16 after finishing second in Group B.

NICOLA BERTI'S UNBELIEVABLE RUN

In the 1988/89 season, in the UEFA Cup Round of 16: Inter faced Bayern München for the first time in their history in a European competition. The Bavarian side qualified following a comeback, thanks to their 3-1 win at San Siro. The first-leg in München is forged in Inter history thanks to Nicola Berti's incredible run. An iconic snapshot, run fuelled by adrenaline and instinct with sealed the 2-0 win for Inter in the clash on 23 November 1988, opened by Aldo Serena's goal in the 60th minute.
