Inter will be back in action at San Siro to face Roma on matchday 31 of Serie A. It's an Italian calcio classic, a showdown that carries the weight of years' worth of excitement, goals, and thrills, ready to come to life once more in a crucial game for the Nerazzurri's journey. In the first leg, Inter secured an important victory in matchday seven of the league thanks to Bonny's decisive goal.
Inter vs. Roma is one of Serie A's most iconic showdowns, and the numbers prove just that. In fact, Inter vs. Roma is the fixture with the highest number of goals in the league's history: 533 goals over 185 encounters, with 300 scored by the Nerazzurri and 233 by the Giallorossi, averaging 2.9 goals per game.
Roma are the team against whom Inter have recorded the most victories, 80. This next fixture at San Siro will take the number of encounters up to 186, the same as the record for matches between two teams in the league's history.
A special detail to note is that this clash, Inter vs. Roma, will be played on Easter Sunday for the fourth time in Serie A. In the last three meetings, the Nerazzurri remained unbeaten, with two wins and a draw, the last one was on 22 April, 1973.
Recent history is in favour of Inter, who are unbeaten in 15 out of the last 17 league games against the Giallorossi. Over this period, they recorded nine wins and six draws, including eight victories in the last ten games.
Inter's league campaign remains solid and consistent, especially at San Siro. The Nerazzurri have recorded 35 out of a possible 45 points at home, from eleven wins, two draws, and two losses, scoring 39 goals at an average of 2.6 per game.
Cristian Chivu's side now have the chance to hit 70 points after 31 matchdays for only the second time in the last three seasons, highlighting their impressive consistency.
The numbers paint a picture of a team that creates chances and controls play reliably. Inter are the team who have hit the woodwork the most often in Serie A this season and lead the league in crosses from open play, often creating major goal-scoring opportunities, as is evident from their 15 headed goals, unmatched across the league.
The Nerazzurri are also strong when it comes to high pressing, winning the ball back and turning these recoveries into chances and goals. They've have scored six goals so far from these situations. In terms of their defence, they remain extremely solid, conceding the fewest goals in Serie A.
Set pieces continue to be one of the team's greatest strengths, having scored 15 goals from corners. This demonstrates the precision and effectiveness of Inter's set-piece situations.
Lautaro Martinez remains Inter's key attacking force. With 129 Serie A goals, the Nerazzurri captain is closing in on new milestones in the league's all-time scoring chart, just one goal away from Ezio Pascutti and Francesco Graziani (130), who are 43rd in Serie A's top scorers.
His impact cannot simply be measured in goals. In 2026, with Lautaro in the starting XI, Inter have won 77% of their games across all competitions, averaging 2.4 goals per game.
Piotr Zielinski is coming close to hitting a major milestone: 100 goal contributions in Serie A. Currently, he has 49 goals and 50 assists. The Polish midfielder is a symbol of quality and consistency, who can make an impact in every phase of play. His vision and intelligent movement make him vital to the Nerazzurri's balance.
Hakan Çalhanoglu is having a standout season in front of goal. The Turkish midfielder is enjoying the most prolific scoring rate of his career across Europe's top five leagues, highlighting his importance in attack. The No. 20 averages a goal every 176 minutes. His technical quality and composure in decisive moments prove him to be invaluable to Inter.
Federico Dimarco is having a sensational season. With 15 assists, he is among the top creators in Europe's top five leagues, and thanks to his 21 goal contributions, he has become the first defender in Serie A to reach this milestone in a single season since the data started being recorded (in 2004/05).
Roma head into this clash on the back of an inconsistent run of results, but still proving to be competitive. The Giallorossi are fifth in the table with 54 points, on par with Juventus. Gasperini's side have scored in each of their last seven league games, but failed to win four of them, recording three wins, two draws, and two losses.
In the last nine matchdays, their form has dropped in consistency as they are now averaging 1.3 points per game. Their recent record on the road has been challenging as well, with six defeats in the last nine league games following a strong start to the campaign.
However, in terms of defence, Roma have one of the best records along with Inter in Serie A. The Giallorossi have conceded just 23 goals and have conceded the fewest headed goals alongside Inter, while also ranking among the sides allowing the fewest shots.
The Giallorossi also excel at organising the game in the opening stages, having conceded just three goals in the first 30 minutes, the fewest in Serie A. Roma also maintain strong control of the pitch and remain active in the final third, yet they are less efficient in longer attacking spells compared to the Nerazzurri.
Gasperini is expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Svilar in goal; Mancini, N'Dicka, and Hermoso in the back three; Celik, El Aynaoui, Cristante, and Rensch in midfield; and Soulè and Pellegrini supporting Malen up front.
