Amidst Manchester United’s stream of lacklustre signings over the last 10 years, they will occasionally unearth one gem who hits the ground running instantaneously.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes will spring to mind for most, as he established himself as one of the side’s most influential and effective acquisitions within a matter of matches when he joined from Sporting Lisbon, so much so that he was named Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year after his maiden campaign in Manchester despite playing only four months of the season.

Now, it’s Noussair Mazraoui who has had an instant impact during such a turbulent start to the campaign at club level and has immediately established himself as a non-droppable starter.

The fullback has started each of the Reds’ 12 Premier League matches thus far, plus all five Europa League group-stage matches. Remarkably, he’s emerged as a standout performer in each of his outings, with fans revelling in the calibre of his showings after the club forked out only £12.8 million for him in July.

Take his performance against Bodø/Glimt, for example. Mazraoui was instrumental to Ruben Amorim’s first win as United head coach, recording a 100 per cent crossing accuracy and 95 per cent passing accuracy, winning 86 per cent of his duels and firing 21 passes into the final third (per StatmanDave).

He also completed eight ball recoveries, won five tackles, created three chances and won three clearances. Amorim quite literally could not ask for any more

Alas, it’ll come as no surprise for fans to learn that United chiefs are privately rejoicing over how their summer acquisition has fared. Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg took to X/Twitter last night to detail just how highly thought of Mazraoui is behind the scenes, writing: “Noussair Mazraoui is internally regarded as one of the strongest signings of recent years at Man Utd.

“Both the board and the coaching staff are extremely satisfied with his performances. He is seen as an absolute leader and is expected to continue in this role under Ruben Amorim in the future.”
