"Salzburg are about high quality and ambition“

On Danny Röhl's first day as new head coach of our Red Bulls, members of the media were given the opportunity to meet our new boss. At the press conference at 16:00, the 37-year-old, along with our sporting director Marcus Mann, answered questions from the assembled journalists.

We've known Danny for some time now, and he's already gained lots of experience at a young age. Even more importantly, he's ambitious and hardworking – these were the qualities that convinced us he's the right head coach for the future.

Marcus Mann on our new coach

I'm delighted to be here. I've been here several times in the past and know Salzburg well – the club has always stood for attacking, courageous football. That's precisely the path we want to take. We want to return to the identity that distinguished the club for so many years. Thanks to Marcus, the last few days have been excellent, and I have to also thank Rangers, who agreed to this move. I'm really looking forward to the challenge here!

Danny Röhl on joining us

It's true that we had agreed with Danny a week ago, and we were also largely in agreement with the Rangers a few days ago, at least from our perspective. Then a few points came up that needed clarification, which is why the matter dragged on a bit. We certainly would have liked to finalise it a few days earlier, but the important thing is that it worked out. Sometimes you can have different opinions on things – those have now been resolved.

I had the opportunity to meet the team today, and we discussed a few things right away. Now, the focus in the first few days is on settling in, getting to know everyone, and making an impression – and then we're looking forward to a good pre-season.

Danny Röhl on his first day in Salzburg

The squad is relatively large at the moment. Compared to other leagues, we're quite early in the process, so the transfer market in many countries isn't really in full swing yet. We have to embrace this challenge, as we'll certainly see some changes in one direction or another during the course of pres-eason. Nevertheless, we can't afford to waste a single day, because we have a lot of new people, and we need to use this time to get to know each other.

Marcus Mann on the situation in the squad

I had the privilege of working within the Red Bull organisation for nine years, taking my first career steps there and working my way up from the academy to the first team in Leipzig. During that time, I experienced many different facets and learned even then that Salzburg stands for high quality and high standards. It's crucial for me that we're an ambitious club, and I'm looking forward to working with such ambitious people. I also had many formative experiences in Southampton, and then came my time in Munich. That hunger for titles and the understanding of what it means to be a favourite were important lessons I learned there. Winning all the titles together with Hansi Flick was extraordinary. It's no secret that Hansi remains a close confidant of mine to this day. Ralf Rangnick also had a significant influence on my career.
