Simone Inzaghi says that he hopes to have the players missing through injury back when Inter Milan face Roma next weekend.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s Serie A loss away to Bologna. He provided an injury update.

Inter Milan were missing three players due to injury against Bologna this evening.

Wingback Denzel Dumfries and midfielder Piotr Zielinski have both been out since the international break.

Dumfries is suffering from a thigh strain, having had a run of starts prior to the break. Meanwhile, Zielinski has been recovering from a persistent calf problem picked up in a Serie A clash with Monza.

Furthermore, Marcus Thuram joined the injury list yesterday.

The Frenchman played all ninety minutes of Inter’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

That effort took its toll on Marcus Thuram, however. He has suffered some muscular fatigue in his left thigh.

There was certainly a sense that the absences were felt against Bologna this evening. Inter looked exhausted on the pitch, whilst Inzaghi didn’t have as many options to choose from as he’d like.

And the Inter coach explained that “as far as injured players, we hope to have Thuram, Zielinski, and Dumfries back soon.”

“Particularly because on Sunday, we’ll be missing two players due to suspension from yellow cards,” he noted. “Bastoni and Mkhitaryan.”

Inzaghi hinted that Bastoni and Mkhitaryan “won’t be available against Roma, so they’ll probably play on Wednesday.”

“We’re trying to speed up the returns of the other three,” the Nerazzurri coach made clear.

“We hope to have them available against Roma.”

Then, of this evening’s loss to Bologna, Inzaghi noted that “Bologna were well-prepared – but so were Inter.”

“We went blow for blow with them,” the Inter coach said.

“But at the moment, conceding a goal like that, twenty seconds from the end, hurts.”

“But we get back up,” Inzaghi declared.

“The title race isn’t over here in Bologna. We still have a lot of objectives in front of us.”

“Obviously conceding a goal like that after all the effort we put in is disappointing,” Inzaghi admitted. “But that’s sport, and we have to accept it.”

“And then we have to prepare for the next match in two days.”
