Leif Davis has been given a three-match suspension for violent conduct after an incident with Leicester City’s Caleb Okoli in Ipswich’s 1-1 draw at Portman Road, leaving the club angered.

The clash came during a first-half set-piece. After a tussle, Okoli went down and appeared to swipe a leg at the left-back. On getting up, Davis pushed him to the turf again.

Officials did not spot the exchange at the time, with only Okoli spoken to, and footage later showed the incident before it was classed as violent conduct. Davis admitted the charge but argued the automatic three-match punishment was excessive, an independent commission rejected that view.

Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton said: “Following a week of frustration regarding officiating, I am incensed by the timing, process and outcome regarding this incident.

“We are currently awaiting written reasons, which we expect to be full, clear and transparent, and will reserve the club's position until that point.”

The match was controversial, with Ipswich players appealing for four penalties across the 90 minutes.
