FLW round-up the latest news surrounding the Tractor Boys
Ipswich Town's summer signing spree doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon, with the Tractor Boys already signing four new players.
40-year-old Ashley Young is the latest addition to Kieran McKenna's side - the experienced full-back moves to Suffolk after following his Everton release at the end of the 24/25 campaign.
After completing a double swoop for two Ligue 1 talents - Cedric Kipre and Azor Matusiwa - earlier this month, FLW rounds up the latest news from Portman Road.
Ipswich have reportedly informed Middlesbrough they are prepared to pay up to £20m for England U21 midfielder Hayden Hackeny, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon.
Nixon says that the package includes a salary of around £35k-per-week for the 23-year-old, whose current Boro deal runs to 2027.
Hackney has apparently long been considered a Premier League-level player after clocking 110 senior outings on Teesside, but no top-flight club has yet matched Town's prospective offer.
With skipper Sam Morsy already heading to Kuwait SC and loan duo Jens Cajuste and Kalvin Phillips returning to their parent clubs, it's surely certain McKenna views Hackney as the tactical pivot alongside Matusiwa in a new-look midfield.
Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards left Hackney out of their friendly at Rangers, later telling media that a "minor knee issue" was the reason, but a suggestion could be made that Boro are bracing themselves for offer/s to be made.
Should Ipswich succeed, the fee would match that of when they signed Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa - although it would be the largest amount ever a club has spent on a player in the second-tier.
The previous record was set by Wolves, who paid Porto a reported sum of £15.8m for Ruben Neves in 2017.
It's no secret that striking reinforcements remain a priority after Liam Delap's £30m move to Chelsea, but Ipswich now reportedly trail Swansea City for 29-year-old Oli McBurnie, as per Nixon's Patreon.
McBurnie is available on a free transfer after a relegation release clause allowed him to walk away from Spanish side Las Palmas - the Scotsman netted five times in 35 appearances for them since joining last summer as a free agent.
Having scored 26 goals in 62 league games for the Swans between 2017 and 2019, he is proven in the second-tier - yet his injury worries whilst playing for Sheffield United do hint that it could be a gamble.
Then-Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Sheffield that McBurnie suffered "ligament damage and some fractures," and would miss "a matter of months."
During five seasons in South Yorkshire, McBurnie scored 29 goals in 159 appearances, and 15 of them came in just one season - 22/23.
Omari Hutchinson's absence from the Tractory Boy's 3-1 friendly win at Aberdeen ignited fresh talk of an exit, yet McKenna said, "There's nothing in the air - he's an Ipswich player."
Brentford activated the £35m relegation clause in Hutchinson's deal earlier in July, but reportedly failed to meet Ipswich's preferred payment terms as the offer didn't include the money up front.
Hutchinson, who is still under contract at Portman Road until 2029, joined the Tractor Boys for a reported £20m last summer from Chelsea. This move followed an impressive loan spell where he scored ten goals and managed five assists in the Championship.
If Ipswich were to land Hackney and retain Hutchinson, McKenna would certainly be leaving the rest of the division scared - and I'm sure there'll be other options lined up to sort the striker situation out if McBurnie goes back to Wales.
